A backorder is an order for a good or service that cannot be filled in at the current time due to a lack of available supply. The item may not be held in the company's available inventory but could still be in production, or the company may need to still manufacture more of the product. Backorders are an indication that demand for a company's product outweighs its supply.
Few are the outlines about the backorder implementation in OMS-
We will be using Magento default feature to manage backorders.
The configuration to allow backorders or not will be on Company Level from admin.
If it’s disabled, we will allow Out of Stock items to be added to Cart, allow to Save as Quote but customer won’t be able to Checkout with it and go beyond Step - 3 (SKU Selection).
If backorders are allowed, we will allow customers to move from step 3 to step 4 with a caution about the same (Some items are not in stock).
